Osteoarthritis is due to degeneration of the cartilage within the knee joint. This is usually due to age and “wear and tear“ but can also be accelerated by injury.
The cartilage cushions the knee joint, allowing you to have both stability and motion. Degeneration leads to inflammation, shrinking, and tears of the cartilage. This can cause pain with weight-bearing or after exercise but may also exist rest as well.
Injection therapy and other interventional modalities are utilized to reduce information, regenerate and repair tissue, or in severe cases block the pain sensation within the joint.
