Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy Q & A

What is Platelet Rich Plasma?

Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP, utilizes the power of the bodies own platelets to reduce inflammation and restore function. Platelets function at the site of tissue injury, releasing a high concentration of growth factors to induce healing. More and more studies are showing that these growth factors can play a crucial role in inflammation and healing of tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues.

What Is The Process To Undergo PRP Therapy?

Platelet Rich Plasma therapy is the easiest and most accessible of all the different Regenerative therapies which exist. The entire process can take as little as 30 minutes to perform. First, the staff at Garden State Pain Management will withdraw about 60cc of blood from the patient. Then it gets concentrated in a centrifuge. And last, Dr Koppel will inject it into the damaged area, whether a tendon, ligament or joint.

What Conditions Are Treated With Platelet Rich Plasma?

More and more uses of PRP continue to be discovered. These include

- Tendon injuries such as shoulder tendinitis, Tennis elbow

- Joint injuries such as Knee Meniscal Tears, Shoulder and Hip Labral Tears

- Muscle injuries such as Cervical and Lumbar Sprains, Myofascial Pain, Tension Headaches
